Stuff we like
On this page we want to share items we found useful in doing repairs or using Joy. We do not have any commercial contracts and all of the below is strictly based on our personal experience.
Spinlock life vest
Finally I got my Spinlock Deckvest lite and I have to say it really was worth the money. The key point: it wears so comfortably that I do not hesitate to put it on any time for as long as necessary. As Joy needs some work to be done outside the cockpit this life vest is the perfect match for the boat.
Soft Shackle
Soft shackles are fairly easy to make yourselfí and such a versatile tool to use on the boat. They do not corrode, are light and easy to handle. We are using them more and more on Joy.
Spartan Marine
Joy has 14 of their seacocks, and they all are the original ones from 1984. Not one became loose or had to be exchanged for any mechanical defect.
The company is still around and their bronze made products look the same as back then. On top they are happy to help with advice on solving any problem or how to best maintain their products. Five stars.
Yachtcare
With Joy’s gelcoat showing signs of wear, chalking mostly, she got a brush up with Yachtcare’s Refinish Paste and Boat Wax and the results were really impressive. Lots of elbow grease but totally worth the effort.
Dremel
During our 2022 refit, working in some of the remotest corners of Joy we learned to appreciate this little guy. First of all because, well, he is small and easy to use in the tightest quarters. Secondly this is such a powerful and versatile tool. It saved the day more than once and with 300W it works off the inverter as well.
