Gibraltar – València

After some final preparations we were ready for the long planned sailing turn to València. We started the first leg from La Línea de la Concepción, the town next to Gibraltar with its lovely Alcaidesa Marina to Almerimar on May 18th.

Leg 1 from La Línea to Almerimar
158 nm, 33h 50 m

In Almerimar we took a two day break to wait for favourable conditions, i.e. some Westerly winds. To make best use of the change in winds we decided to go from Almerimar directly to València skipping the planned stops at Cartegena and/or Alicante because winds would turn around and we would have to beat upwind for extended periods. Hence the second leg all in one go from Almerimar to València.

Leg 2 from Almerimar to València
271 nm, 54h 45 m

429 nm later, having sailed in various conditions due to the unstable winds we arrived at Joy’s new home, dock K38 at València Marina.

We loved the sailing with all its challenges but some excellent food and the relaxed life aboard made the turn even more enjoyable.
